If linux partition fails and you have installed lilo in the MBR, you can   
still boot windows by choosing it in lilo prompt.

with lilo in the MBR all you have to do is get a dos diskette, boot from   
it and run "fdisk /mbr"
Putting lilo in MBR or not is rather a matter of taste... i can't see a   
good technical reason not to do so.
