This, I believe Pawan, is the dreaded sendmail lock. Why it occurs is a
questions the gurus can answer. I think i happens when sendmail is not
able to resolve your domain name.

You can do it by typing "ntsysv" at the root prompt and un-checking
sendmail. But you say you are running some email programs on the machine.
Email, even if to a user inside the same host, is delievered by sendmail.
So stopping it at startime might affect things. Of course, you can always
manually start it after booting, but the delay in startup might occur
again.
This might sound silly, but, say if your hostname for the machine is
pawan.linux.in, make sure there's an entry in /etc/hosts which reads
127.0.0.1 pawan.linux.in localhost
this, i feel, will allow sendmail to resolve your hostname speedily. the
gurus could clarify. But, as i have mentioned earlier, Atul's article on
sendmail config in the original PCQ ( may 98 ) was exhaustive and doing it
as he said, i had and still have no problem with sendmail.
