Re: Network Cards

Almost any PCI card works fine on Linux - Compex, generic (noname)
cards based on Realtek (RTLxxxx) chipsets, 3 Com (expensive),
cards based on DIGITAL chipsets (work great - I have an
Accton Cheetah card based on 21140 chip; works great at 10 and 100 Mbps)
and so on. Search for Donald Becker's site on yahoo for more
details.

Simplest way is to use a null modem cable (search the HOWTOs for
info on making the cable) and connect it to the Linux m/c via
the serial ports. Then you can login and use it as a dumb terminal
by running vterm or procomm for dos.

If you are ambitious, look on the web for the ELKS project. That
should help you run Linux on the 286, but I guess you need a
HDD.
