Thanks for your help. It's finally working. How did you come to know of the
solution?

However I'm facing another problem. When I quit KDE, I see that KDE has
given the following message before starting: KCharset: "Wrong charset
!".While this problem doesn't seem to be affecting the normal operations in
my system, I'd still like to get rid of it.
