partition problems

1. Is there a requirement that the root, swap and /usr partitions should
reside
on the same hard disk?
2. I have a 4.3 GB HD. hda1 is 2GB FAT32. I have an extended parttion
hda2 of 1GB with a logical drive hda5 of 1GB FAT16 occupying the whole
of it.
When I try to create Linux partitions on this disk, I can define any two
partitions of whatever size on hda3 and hda4. Any partition after this fails
with the "Reason undefined." I am using Disk Druid.

TIA

Narayana
