DNS Setup Problems

Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a DNS on an intranet (disconnected from the internet). The OS is RedHat Linux 5.2 with kernel 2.2.9. The version of named is 8.1.2. I've read the DNS-HOWTO and faithfully followed the directions provided. However I don't know what to do about the Root Server for the domain. In the HOWTO, its written that we do not need the root.hints file. Elsewhere on the net, its given that we should set up our server itself as the root server for the top-level domain. I've tried both things (as I understood them). However, there is no example provided on how to set up the files for our server to act as the root server.
  Will someone please help me?

Thanks in advance.

Arvind
