Re: Mouse problem in XWindows -Reply

I have recently joined this list and this is my first mail.

I have also faced a problem similar to the one mentioned below.
I was installing RedHat5.2 on a Micron PC. After the PS/2 port was detected I
selected Microsoft Intelli Mouse. The rest of the installation proceeded
without any problem. Then I found that mouse behaviour in text mode was
alright but under X the mouse cursor was sticking to the top right corner of
the screen. Then I executed "mouseconfig", this time selecting Generic PS/2
mouse and executed "Xconfigurator". The problem remained. I executed
"Xconfigurator" a few more times with no improvement in the situation. I
looked at the "XF86config" file and found that the mouse is still set to
"IMPS/2". Then I deleted the "XF86config" file and executed "Xconfigurator"
and this time the problem disappeared. But the man page of "Xconfigurator"
very clearly states that it will pickup the mouse details from
/etc/sysconfig/mouse file. This may not be a serious bug but for novices it
can cause a lot of headache.
