Not necessarily!

On Linux (or any Unix for that matter) you can do

wget -r -l 1 http://<your url>/

will get all files at the first level from the specified URL

wget is available at prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu/

It's text based and allows one to retrieve/mirror a webpage unattended
too...I mean in the background (Works even if U log off)
Allows proxies for both FTP and HTTP...
Quite a handy utility..
