SIMPUTER: In the news....
Congrats to the Simputer team. The local papers (in Goa, where I live) carry
a photograph with the caption below...
SMALL WONDER: Associate professor in the department of Computer Sicnece and
Automation, Indian Institute of Sicnenc, Swami Manohar, poses with models of
the 'Simputer' on the eve of its launch in Bangalore on Tuesday. The Simputer
(short for Simple Computer) scheduled for mass production by early 2001 and
slated to cost Rs 9000 is the first indigenously built pocket computer of its
kind in the country. Using the Linux operating system and having a 32 bit CPU
with 32 MB of DRAM, the Simputer needs 3.5 volts (3 AAA size batteries) of
power and at full operational capacity the Simputer has a battery life of six
to eight hours.
This is good publicity for Linux too! Keep up the good work, Bangalore.
