 Hotmail uses a very strong grade of SSL, so anybody sniffing your passwords in
 transit is not going to be very easy.

 That said, there _have_ been occasions in the past when hotmail has been
 h4x0r3d and passwords stolen.  There's also the usual "social engineering" /
 "phishing", where someone pretends to be "hotmail staff" and asks you for your
 password.  [this is why actual mail from hotmail staff is tagged with two blue
 arrows these days]

 yep.  sort of.  Much safer than (say) your passwords at $local_isp (most of
 whom have systems that are full of holes as a swiss cheese)
