There's also the factor of 'not fouling your own nest'.
Most of the 'non malicious' virus authors get bitten by the
GPL bug - and find it far more fun than demonstrating that
M$ products are insecure and wide open (besides being
costly).

As for virii - *nix is far more paranoid about security than
a comparative installation of 'doze.  Of course, if someone
is idiot enough to trust some shell script (which perhaps
changes your root passwd and adds a h4x0r's ssh key) by
opening and executing an attachment (and checking mail while
logged in as root), it's his own fault.
