hi samuel,
	The application must be proxy aware ie. it should know how to
connect to the www through a proxy. If u are using some standard
application like wget, lynx etc. then you can set their configuration
files to use the proxy. Also almost all of them have a command line option
to set the proxy to use. Read their manpage.
	Also some of them use the environment variables like
http_proxy,ftp_proxy,no_proxy etc.
	If it is an application which does not support proxies, then IMHO
its not possible. U might have to change the source.

	To browse the internet, u can use lynx or to just fetch data, use
wget.
