Re: System Configuration




1)change default runlevel to 3 in /etc/inittab or do 
"telinit 3" after doing su to switch to runlevel 3
2)as far as i know inetd is needed to invoke demons only when they are
needed.it listens and if a request for telnet comes it starts in.telnetd
demon.(others like ftpd ,echo,time,finger etc.)
conf file in /etc/inetd.conf
you can start these services without using inetd
3)yes you can . files in other rc[0-6].d are links to files in init.d,but
some services work on particular runlevel only
