If somebody knows the root password it is no use
trying to restrict the user he/she can always login as
root in the first place so you should try to protect
your root password.

Did you complete the Xconfigurator successfully? If
you didn't see the graphical interface while
configuring X then try doing it again. Is the graphic
card supported by your version of linux? If not you
have to choose the manual configuration while running
Xconfigurator. Try checking the graphic card's website
to see if it has a driver available for linux.
