One thought is to push Java/JSP. The marketing machine in Mountain View
is quite potent. Over here in the US, a lot of jsp developers are 
available, but don't know how they compare to asp in price.

Interbase 6.0 could change things a little bit for open source products
- it's somewhere in between the ultra high end (oracle) and mysql, which
doesn't support transactions.

Bluelight.com - K-marts store which went online yesterday seems to be
using Apache/Linux + weblogic (a java app server which is pretty popular
here).
