Buying 2.1rX is not gonna be a good deal/idea if potato is gonna be around

Then, in that case you wanna have a look whether debian has a port
that runs on your HP-UX box. http://www.debian.org/ports

Well, Anybody who is using Debian usually doesn't wait for the
official CD. :-) Usually get's hold of the debian cd available in
market and does an apt-get install of either the frozen/stable/unstable
version and get's going.
I have been running Debian 2.3 ( Woody ) on the server here and I
haven't had a glitch. If you are seriously looking at Debian, then
getting an older CD and doing apt-get is the best I would suggest.
And I am not being specfic to Intel Platform.
