I will note here that Thaths is reasonably skinny and used to wear glasses. <g> He's socially well-adjusted as well (one good turn deserves another)

This, I'm not so sure about. It probably has at least a little to do with the fact that the geek community, almost by deifinition, has low resistance to change (which is a GOOD THING. How many of you still use 486s ?) and is thus more open to reading stuff set in different milieus.
