php and apache prob

hi 
   i m installing php (from tar) on my debian box
i can compile php sucessfully with apache and mysql 
but when i try to start apache
i get following error
i configured php by

./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs

but still i get following error

debian:~# /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start
Syntax error on line 236 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/libphp4.so into server: libphp4.so: undefined symbol: uncompress
/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

libphp4.so is present in
/usr/local/apache/libexec/
