Sounds like your qmail queue has gone kaput..

[root@valium] /var/qmail/queue/remote# ls
0/  10/  12/  14/  16/  18/  2/   21/  3/  5/  7/  9/
1/  11/  13/  15/  17/  19/  20/  22/  4/  6/  8/

remote/18/110027 sounds like the file 110027 in the directory
/var/qmail/queue/remote/18/

Check what that file is upto maybe some file permissions went wrong. do
note no one should ever play around with the queue files - if something
is wrong there is a high probability that qmail itself has gone haywire
somehow. If it is not a production server I would recommend reinstalling
qmail all over.
