Thanks Krishnan for the link. But you are just a few hrs. late, I have just
d/l the kernel 2.2.17 (16 MB) thinking that it supports USB. Well I guess
I'll try out the pre patch as it is just 2.3 MB before d/l the beta kernel
18.6 MB.

Well for the ease of others regarding the USB support:

The kernel series 2.4 (starting from ver 2.2.18) has built in support for
the USB devices (d/l http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/ ). But as
they are in beta, you can find a backport to patch kernel 2.3 (ver 2.2.17)
at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/alan/2.2.18pre/ .

Do find out the device id for your USB device at:
http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids
