port scan

hi! friens,

recently i scanned ports of an isp and i found these sevices,
i don't know what these mean

port#   desc
9       discard
7       echo
19      chargen
512     biff/exec  (is it some kind of shell?)
111     portmap/sunrpc (how can i use this?)
514     shell/syslog    (i tried telnet to this port but got no reply)
540     uucp

and there where other services like finger,smtp,pop etc.

if u know what these mean please reply.
