Re: Minutes from the ILUGC meet - November 25th, 2000

hi,

Suraj - nice job on the detailed minutes. Thanks.

Well, I never mentioned that Python was GPL'd. I said that it was
free without going into the details... I didnt go into the history of
the lang etc. It was late and the 17 attendees already had more than
an earful (about 2 hours of talk - yes, my throat gave up later.). So
I can perfectly understand if Suraj didnt notice. In any case you
will agree that the technical part he did grasp admirably - inspite of
an unprepared extempore talk (thanks to my usual last minute
procrastination).

Oh. BeOpen is history too. Python core dev team is now with the Zope
group - Digital Creations.

Yes, I did not mention that but please note there are a lot of things
that one can mention, well, even write books on. But relax, the talk
on python was just an intro. I did not even get to syntax and stuff -
let alone how to actually write code and use realistic modules. That
is for the next meeting. :)

And FYI I also mentioned python's amazing introspection capabilities,
that one can call c/c++ libraries (wrapping them by hand or via swig
and others) from python so sometimes performance is not too bad.
Besides, CPython, Jython and Stackless were briefly mentioned.

    Gautam> Just my thoughts.

Likewise. :)

Thanks again Suraj. Great to have you as the webmaster and minutes
writer!
