The Indian TeX Users Group (TUGIndia) are pleased to announce a free
online tutorial covering the basics of LaTeX, graphics, fonts, and a
little of TeX programming.

The topics covered will be:

 1. A brief history of TeX
 2. Markup methodologies
 3. The way of TeX
 4. What is LaTeX?
 5. Basic document classes
 6. Various components of classes
 7. Preamble, sectioning, lists -- enumerated, labelled, itemized
 8. Bibliography -- various schemes
 9. Floats -- figures, tables, marginpars
10. Boxed material -- parbox, minipage, etc.
11. Table of contents, list of tables/figures
12. Index generation, multi-level multiple indexes
13. Math -- symbols, formulae
14. Complex constructs, matrices, cases, commutative diagrams, etc.
15. Theorem environments, manipulation, customization
16. Graphics -- a general overview
17. Labelling of eps figures generated by Mathematica or other
       software using LaTeX
18. PStricks, Metapost, XYPic, function plotting, charts
19. Hypertext and TeX -- pdfTeX/pdfLaTeX, possibilities
20. Presentations using pdfTeX
21. Fonts, font setup, NFSS, customization
22. Introduction to various popular packages that might
      help your document generation easier
23. Setting up a working TeX system in your computer
24. Anything left out or as suggested by members


The course material is arranged to span a period of three months in 24
modules (but the period can be cut short if users find it easier to
digest the lessons and the discussions seem sufficient).

Course material will be delivered at the TUGIndia web site in pdf
formats (both screen and print versions) and TeX sources will also be
made available.

All your questions, doubts (whether trivial or not) will be patiently
answered by a team of resource persons specially set up for this
tutorial.

As the efforts for this are enormous, we would request you to send this
note to any person whom you think might be interested in TeX, so that we
cover the maximum number of academics, researchers, students in this
country. This mail can be freely distributed.

The tutorial will start by the first week of October 2000. The first
three chapters of the tutorial is available at:
