mouse cursor under x!

Hi,

i have a strange problem... i was recently trying out
the various window managers and themes.. now, today
when i started up , the mouse cursor is showing as 'X'
and dosent show up as the usual arrow cursor.. 

if i click on some link(say in a browser or
elsewhere), the cursor changes to the arrow but
switches back to the 'X' cursor... can anyone help me
get back my regular cursor ???
