Or, are the DNS settings in Linux correct?
Sometimes, if u have a primary DNS unreachable (and secondary reachable),
there will be a timeout and a resultant delay.

To check this, compare using just IP adresses and not names.
As Prabhu said, ftp is a better test.
What browsers say need not be the correct figures, although the diff will
not be so high.
