Dear Mr. Sriram,
Edit smb.conf file and do the following setting for the basic Samba to work

Workgroup = (say) chennailug
Localmaster=yes
loadprinters=yes
os level=33
security = user

(create a directory under home "netlogon","tmp")

[netlogon]
   comment = Network Logon Service
   path = /home/netlogon
   guest ok = yes
   writable = yes
   share modes = no

[tmp]
   comment = Temporary file space
   path = /tmp
   read only = no
   public = yes
