	You could always boot off a recent distribution CD (recent
implying "bootability"), and choose the rescue option that most of
them provide (well, Debian does, and I suppose others will too). You
may have to specify your root partition.

	Another method that was popular in the elder days of the Linux
India list :), was mock-reinstalling RH 5.1/2 using the upgrade
option, till you got to the stage where you could rewrite your
MBR. Also, most installations provide an emergency shell on a virtual
console. Usnig Alt-Fn, one could escape to the shell, and proceed with
'lilo -v' or whatever.
