Can I do this in GNU/emacs

Hello
     suppose I have a project(with a number of c files and
headers ).Suppose in one file a particular variable is used. I want to
know how it is defined.But the definition is in some other file. Is there
any way to go to the definition sitting inside GNU/emacs?

     BTW, I found out that it is possible in VC++ by highlighting the
variable and right clicking->go to definition. :(
