Installing linux

well, i am having a problem with installation of linux. when it asks me where to put LILO, either master boot record or first boot partition, none of the choices work. it just gives the message "there was an error in the installation process" try again 
i tried to skip that and boot from a boot floppy created during the installation, but that says "Error 0 x 02" after the boot : prompt.
and also it won't configure x windows, it just says error, try again !
what do i do ? 
i have two hard disks, the first one has WinNT and Win98, on the second, i am trying to load Linux. Monitor - Datamini,
Display card : Sis6202,, display RAM : 1MB

pls help ?
