Internet access.

Hi,

I am not able to connect to the net as a user. My pppd is suid, I
have created ip-up.local and ip-up.local in /etc/ppp. I get the handshake
and pppd quits saying "The pppd daemon died unexpectedly."
My /dev/modem and /dev/ttyS1 are 777 in permissions. This is what the kppp
says:

Sep 28 08:34:23 localdomain pppd[566]: pppd 2.3.7 started by c, uid 503
Sep 28 08:34:23 localdomain pppd[566]: Using interface ppp0
Sep 28 08:34:24 localdomain pppd[566]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
Sep 28 08:34:28 localdomain pppd[566]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Sep 28 08:34:28 localdomain pppd[566]: Modem hangup
Sep 28 08:34:28 localdomain pppd[566]: Connection terminated.
Sep 28 08:34:28 localdomain pppd[566]: Connect time 0.1 minutes.
Sep 28 08:34:28 localdomain pppd[566]: Exit.

I am able to connect and browse the net as root. Also after I browse
the net as root, the /etc/hosts is modified. Next time I run startx, iI
get a message saying "GNOME may not function properly. This can be
corrected by adding localhost to /etc/hosts". So after modification, my
/etc/hosts looks like this:

	127.0.0.1 localhost localdomain

That still does not stop the warning.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks
Gautam
