	That means when you run 'startx' script(/usr/X11R6/bin/startx), only
xinit is running(you can try running 'xinit' alone). This should be
followed by startup of default window manager(specified in the
.Xclients) and it starts all the default applications. All these details
are in the files like .gnome-xxxxx. When you deleted the  login 'g' this
directory/default files are lost.
 
	In case your login does'nt have these fies, they are read from root
login and things should work normally provided root has used gnome by
then. 

	Simple solution is to copy the lost files from other login(or root) to
here. If you change the default window manager to any other, everything
works fine with that.
