*SGI Makes Linux Debut at Linux Expo*

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (May 17, 1999) -- SGI (NYSE: SGI) will make its 
Linux(tm) debut Thursday, May 20 at Linux Expo at the Raleigh 
Convention and Conference Center in downtown Raleigh, N.C. At the
show, SGI will announce a significant contribution to the open source
community that will bolster Linux as an enterprise-ready operating
system. 

While demonstrating the company's technological innovations at booths 
#66 and 67, SGI will also be presenting three papers as part of the 
conference: "Scalable File Systems for the Open Source Community" on 
Thursday, May 20, at 10:00 a.m., "Accelerated OpenGL for Linux and 
XFree86" on Thursday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. and "Scheduled Transfer 
Protocol over Linux," on Saturday, May 22 at 9:30 a.m. (All EST). 

SGI - a gold sponsor of the conference - has a long history of working
with the open source community. Recently, the company joined Linux
International, introduced support of SambaTM 2.0 for its Origin(tm)
server line, and released GLX and OpenVault(tm) source code into the 
open source community. The company will continue to contribute to the 
open source community with key technologies from its IRIX® operating 
system.
