USB Specifications

Hello
Can somebody suggest me for hardware specifications of
USB coz I want to develop a device driver for it. As
USB is used both for char type device and block type
device interface so does one require to develop a
legacy driver first and then a generic USB driver
which will reside on the legacy driver. Plz help.
