problem with the setting hostname

hai luggies,
I have changed the host name of linux box with c program(using sethostname) 
from the xterm in the Xwindows.After this I could not open any 
application(infact shortcuts).I was able to access the applications(shortcuts) 
only after reverting the hostname back to old value.what is the binding 
between hostname and X?
