kernel panic

Hi,
I compiled a kernel source ver 2.2.5. Due to some goof up I am getting
kernel panic when I am booting via LILO. I have the backup of the kernel
image but in the same hard disk. Now how do I
access the lilo.conf file and change it so that the system can boot with
the correct kernel image.
I do not even have the boot disk for my system.
Any suggestions solutions will of great help
