[LI] pppd/chat prob

Hi Gang ,
           Can someone please tell me where am I going wrong with the script
as I am a novice to linux .As i want to log on to the net the script i was
using with pppd and chat was

pppd /dev/ttyS1 115200 connect '/usr/sbin/chat "" ATDT6246700 CONNECT ""
Username: user@nde Password: pass ' noipdefault defaultroute

after I press enter the onhook lights appears on my modem and  after 2
seconds it disconnects .The second thing is that while I was using minicom
to test my modem I had found that typing and entering ATDT6246700 nothing
happens unless I enter atx1l3 string before the ATDT... string .This is the
same string i use with my ppp option in windows.I am using a GVC 33.6 modem
SF-1133V/R16.
