[LI] Setting up a mail and webserver

hi all,
this problem doesnt directly connect to linux but as i want to use the linux os so this query is on the list. the thing is that i want to setup up a webserver and mailserver for a college. the college possess a VSAT connection. we have also got three ip node addresses from NIC.
the problem is that how do i set the mailserver. supposing that the domain name i want to setup is bengg.edu and a mail id as admin@xxxxxxxx , how do i go about it. do i have to get the domain registered. suppose i just want to send the mails(using the ip addr) and dont want to recieve them, still the domain name has to be registered?
for setting up a webserver with the domain name registered , will the home page reside locally in the college or it will lie in the vsnl or aboroad server. like wise will the mail reside on the local server or outside server.
please enlighten me on the issues.
                                    Thanks
                                         Rajil
