Re: [LI] xwindows problem
Hi Manish
That is exactly what it means. when you type in $ls -al X
and it shows you X->/usr/X11R../bin/ XF86_SVGA.
As for your problem I recall somebody in the list mentioning
about two XF86Config files existing in his path which was causing
him this problem. Check up if you have two XF86Config files.
Do
$locate XF86Config | more
If locate doesn't not work or gives error message
login as root, change to route directory and type
#locate -u
If you have two XF86Config files check which one has
correct configuration and rename or delete the one that
does not have correct settings.
HTH

Aditya
PS : Sorry if some things like advise about locate etc
appears like an advice to a novice

Hi aditya,
what does "symlinked" mean ?
i am sorry if this may be a dumb question, but i don't know what that means.
and how do i check it ?
in the /etc/X11 dir, X is linked to /usr/X11R../bin/ XF86_SVGA
( somethign like that, i don't recall the exact syntax )
please advise.
thanx
Manish.
Hi Manish,
Did you check up whether you X is symlinked to XF86_SVGA, if not
This could make you system start up the wrong Xserver do your XF86
won't matter much.
