[LI] xwindows problem

hi all,
i am having a slight problem with x. ( distro : RH6.1 from the PCQ cd)
i have a SiS 6202 display card.
i ran xconfigurator and set the chip as SiS86C201.
after which i went and manually changed XF86config to  show
chipset "SIS86C202"
Option "no_bitblt"
Videoram 1024

then x actually started working, although the resolution wasn't that great.
but when i shutdown, and started the system some time later, x stopped
working.

i now get a blank black screen, with a big white square in place of the
pointer.
please advise.
