The discussion on slashdot normally is not of very high quality. Most
(not all) people who hang out there are high school kids looking for
cool stuff or people who pander to the gallery.

There are other more interesting places where good stuff gets discussed.
comp.os.linux.development.system used to be one such place. But of late,
it is being consumed by such threads as "Does the kernel contain GPL'ed
code" etc. Parts of linux-kernel are high quality, but you need to get
your filters right and be ready to deal with enormous quantity of mail.

It's a shame that linux-kernel doesn't get mirrored as a newsgroup.
