Re: [LI] ethernet card

you see eth0 means the kernel is compiled with eth support
when we install slackware 4.0 kernel 2.2.6 we get a lot of precompiled
network modules in
/lib/modules/2.2.6/net
with their support already in the default precompiled installation kernel
/vmlinuz
so i would just go to the above directory and run the appropriate .o file
there with the modprobe command
if it works, then i would uncomment the same modprobe line in
/etc/rc.d/rc.modules
after that i would run the netconfig script which would make
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 for me
the file just runs two commands ifconfig and route to set up tcp/ip on the
eth interface
i am ready
i might run /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 to bring the eth0 to life

i hope you can generalize the above for any distribution etc
just the file paths maybe different

modprobe, ifconfig, route, /usr/src/linux :)))) are always gonna be there
