hi,
I installed RedHat 6.1 from PCQ cd - no hassles in that. no problems
with video/sound .
however, there seems to be some problem with the kdeveop provided on
the CD. It installs o.k. . The verification check shows no problem.
However, when I run it, it gives a lot of messages about not finding
pixmaps, etc.
It still starts, but is not able to show any help, while the help files
are installed. Then on trying to make a new application with style as
KDE, it shows all the .cpp and .h files , but when you click on these
files, it says " file not found ".
has anyone installed kdevelop properly ? can these people help me out ?

Hi
Linux and its apps come with documentation in 3 to 4 formats and locations.
1) the "man" pages which you can check using "man
command_or_file_in_question"
ex: man XF86Config, man man, etc.
2) the "info" pages the default way of documenting for GNU stuffs if I am
not
wrong.
ex: info gcc, info libc, etc.
3) the /usr/doc/ directory
For beginners the /usr/doc/LDP and /usr/doc/HOWTO should have useful
contents.
4) the files in the package in question.
Say if you have already installed some RPM package and you don't know where
and all the files in it were installed. Also say you don't have the original
package then you can do
rpm -ql package_name_with_out_version_usually
To see if its actually installed and if installed what are the files that
where
installed by them. Rather I would suggest "man rpm" or "info rpm"

Why the hell? Set the sender domain: in pine for the respective
users to be xyz.com or abc.com or whatever. So all you will get will
be an x-envelope-from:sender@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx in the headers.

until one finds a real solution i guess we poor souls with SiS6215C have
to do this.
i did rpm --force -i XFree86-SVGA--- from PCQ RH5.2 and everything seems
to be right now.

Passing parameters to the Kernel modules and setting the card to a
particular
state are TWO DIFFERENT Things.
Sometimes just using isapnp to configure the Cards state and loading the
required module without parameters works because certain Module inturn check
the card status if possible and work with it properly, But this is NOT
ALWAYS
TRUE
So DON'T IGNORE either of these steps. Both are generaly required.

a) The Harddisk device drivers in 2.0.36 (RedHat 5.2) if I am not wrong
don't
use the UDMA feature even if your BIOS and Harddisk support it. But the
2.2.X
kernels have support for it.
b) If you have a Seagate UDMA harddisk and Your system Bus speed is non
standard i.e (75 or 83 or so For AMD or CYRIX chips or so and NOT 66) or
even
if you have overclocked them then writing to such a Harddisk with UDMA
enabled
can be a disaster. Normally Win95 and even Win98 if I am not wrong by
default
don't come with UDMA enabled drivers so you won't face this problem there
but
in linux distributions having 2.2.x kernel you can face this problem.
In General UDMA enabled harddisks can be unpredictable at NON STANDARD
BUS SPEEDS. However I have personaly found this problem with only the
Seagate
HDD and not Quantum or WesternDigital ones.
So check your BIOS see if you have UDMA enabled if so DISABLE it and then
try
installing RedHat 6.1.
I had a similar problem with my overclocked AMD 266 (at 300) and a Seagate
6GB
HDD, when trying to upgrade my kernel to 2.1.x and later 2.2 kernel. I
finaly idenfified the problem to UDMA and Overclocking. So currently I have
reset the clocking and multiplier setting for 266 in this system.

Vi, is not part of the c compiler. You use Vi to create a program file in c.
After you save it with the .c extension Give "cc <filename.c>" or gcc
<filename.c>
Now if a.out doesn't give any output just do" ./a.out" and things will work.

Just try Alt-F<1 to 7> and see if the device is in use in any of the
consoles.
You must have mounted the device in the default init level and swithced to
some other using Alt- <f> and tried unmounting from there.

hi
i have also faced the problem with kdevelop pcq can not be really blamed for
this as they have provide the latest rpms at the kdevelop sites. Though the
rpms are mentioned to be for rh6.1 specially, but they look for pixmaps for
the widget set in the pre rh 6.0 directories. Even the executable, is
installed in /opt/kde/bin which is no longer the default kde directory.
the only solution i know is to download the tar-gz format and then hack the
makefile to look for pixmaps in the right directory.
btw u can download the tgz file from http://www.kdevelop.org .

I didn't suggest the virtual domains solution because there seemed to be
some catch in it somewhere. My aging grey cells can't still recall the
exact problem - but I think it has to do with reading in some document
that all domains listed in the $=w class (i.e defined as Cw) should be
resolvable (through your DNS) when sendmail starts. which might not be the
case if you are not connected to the net all the time. Of course as I
mentioned before, my setup was different and it wouldn't have helped in any
case - my users don't have email-ids in the same domain - you can't
obviously put yahoo.com and softhome.net in your virtual domains - can you
?? :-)
Also virtual domain translation takes place in Ruleset 3 - which is applied
to ALL addresses (sender & recipient) and therefore even a sender address
of xyz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx would get translated as xyz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx first. Of
course your masquerading rules would translate it back to
xyz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx later - so in your case you'd be fine as long as there's
a strict one to one correspondence between the realdomain.com &
localdomain.com domains.

Looks like you have some line in your /etc/ppp/options file that causes
pppd to assume that the peer (server side of your ppp link) is required to
authenticate itself. Ensure that directives such as "auth", "+pap", "-pap",
"+chap", "-chap" etc are not present in this file.
I don't use kppp for connecting - so not sure how it configures the various
files. In case you don't mind connecting from a text screen, here are the
scripts that I use.

Note that the "ATZ" can be replaced by your desired Modem init string (My
Init string is permanently stored into NVRAM of the modem ) and 172222 with
the appropriate telephone number.

Now put a symlink to /etc/ppp/pppon script somewhere in your executable
path. (Or may be even move it to /usr/sbin or /usr/bin) so that you can
startup the connection without specifying the full path.
Of course you can have a pppoff script also which terminates the connection
by killing the pppd process. Or else you can simply switch off the modem !
(pppd will detect this and die)

Everytime I start StarOffice it gives me annoying message that

There is no such link for registration on Sun's site.
Has anybody had registered at StarOffice website before Sun took over.
Can somebody share the customer number and registration key ?

i think i had the same problem the cd just refused to unmount
these problem is noticed only if your current working directory is
/mnt/cdrom/.....
just change the current working directory to /usr or anything on the HDD
and then try the command these solved my problem !!!
