[LI] Checking a live fs

I am running on a hdd with the foll. partitions 
1. 70 MB swap
2. 800 MB /
3. 3.4 GB Windows 

When i am logged on (as root) how can i check my ext2fs ?
Trying to umount / gives "device / is busy" error...
