startx causing non-stop disk thrashing.

Hi,
I got my 6326 AGP 8MB configured to X-window - thanks to Vishal and Alpesh.

But now I have got another problem.

"xinit" and "X" works fine, but when I try "startx",  the system goes about
thrashing the harddisk which never seems to stop!. I have 40MB swap and
128MB RAM.
please help.
