PPPD timing out

hello guys,
            i have a prob i am unable to use kppp to dial to the net ,
the error message i get in the log file is 

Aug  6 00:27:54 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-24
Aug  6 00:27:54 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-21
Aug  6 00:27:54 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-26
Aug  6 00:27:54 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-24 

and pppd times out

strangely enough  i get the same errors when  i connect manually through
minicom but it works , what could be the problem
