Linux ppp setup problems

Hi,
I tried to correct the pp problems as ,mentioned in the chip article but it
doesn;t work
the garbage of characters when you issue the /usr/sbin/pppd commaad still
comes

And then the wvdialler doesn;t help either
wvdialconf and wvdial commands don't work on root

I tried setting up the connections through linuxconf but although it dials
successfully it fails to connect

I am also haviong problems with my display driver
In win98 I can get a res of 800x600 @16bit but in Linux I can only get a res
of 640x480 @8bit
I tried downloading stuff from www.linux-india.org for SiS6215 cards which I
have but it didn't help

Please help
