800x600 doesnt work

Hello Linux Gurus,

I have a Cirrus Logic 5430/40 card.  Although my Win 98 platform supports a
"800x600" 16 bit mode, i am not able
to make the same work on my linux GNome/Kde.  This really irritates me coz
buttons like "OK" "CANCEL" etc go below the desktop screen.  I tried
changing thru setup but i could not do it.  Please help me on this.
