Hi,

Interbase 4.0 is available for free download and Interbase 5.0
is also available but you will need to pay for it. Interbase 5.0
comes with JDBC support etc and so will be worthwhile.

PosgreSQL 6.5 is also out and it is quite good too, it is free. 
Informix, Oracle, Sybase ASE, SQL Anywhere Studio, SOLID etc
are the other available databases but you will need to pay
for some of these.

MySQL is a good choice if you don't need relational features
too much and there are utilities for moving data from DBF files
to native MySQL format. MySQL is also free.
