It may just be that hotmail is busy ? One thing you can definitely try 
is running "strace" on the netscape process. Run it as:

strace -p xxxx

where xxxx is netscape's pid. That should tell you what netscape is
waiting on. Also check in your $HOME/.netscape for any hotmail related 
cookies and if so, clean them up. grep is your friend.
