Linux Learning Centre is the First Exclusive Linux Training Centre in
India promoted by Institute for Specialised Education. It was started with
the aim of promoting Linux in the software capital of India, Bangalore
City and making the Linux Box a "Desktop Essential". LLC provides a
platform for the Linux enthusiast to learn and experiment with the OS that
is taking the world by storm.

Anyone looking for detailed basic information about Linux should benefit
from this course, whether you have Linux installed, or have not yet
decided on a distribution. This course will guide you through the
essentials of the Linux OS and introduce you to its powerful utilities and
applications.


Linux Basic Course at LLC

The four week comprehensive Basic Course is aimed at introducing Linux to
the newbies from scratch. A brief description of the topics covered is as
follows:
1.An Overview of Linux : A brief overview of the history and evolution of
Linux, its capabilities, strengths, and shortcomings. Concepts of GNU and
the Free Software Foundation. Selecting a Linux Distribution.
2.Preparing Your Hard Disk for duel boot installation. Installation of
Linux from a CD-ROM.
3.Installation and Configuration of XFree86, X Window System and the
various Window Managers. 
4.Customizing Linux and X : Basic Linux configuration and X Window System.
5.Basic Linux Commands and Concepts : An introduction to the rudiments of
Linux for those who come from a DOS/Windows background. 
6.Basic System Administration : Routine system administration tasks like
adding and deleting users, managing groups, scheduling commands, and
mounting filesystems. 
7.Adding and Upgrading Software : Automated and manual means to install,
remove, and upgrade software packages and the Linux kernel. 
8.Recompiling the Kernel & Using Kernel Modules 
9.Linux Tools and Applications : The focus is on basic utilities and
frequently used tools.
10.Editors : Text and Graphic editors under Linux. 
11.Linux Networking : TCP/IP basics and setting up TCP/IP, Serial
telecommunications tools which allow you to dial into online services and
bulletin boards, networking up a small LAN.
12.Linux and the Internet : PPP, e-mail, the web, web browsers.


Course Duration

The duration of this basic course will be 12 sessions of 2 hours each,
stretching over four weeks with adequate hands-on time on the Linux Box. 


Course Fee

The fee for the Basic Course is Rs. 1950/-, which can be paid by cash or
by Cheque / DD drawn in favour of "Institute for Specialised Education",
Payable at Bangalore.
